The 900-kilometer-long Etihad Rail network in the United Arab Emirates has been successfully completed by Etihad Rail

The network will connect four UAE ports and logistics hubs, playing a critical role in the UAE’s transportation and logistics networks.

In addition to linking all seven of the United Arab Emirates emirates, the Etihad Rail system will feature 593 bridges and crossings, 38 locomotives, and six tunnels. Improved national competitiveness and greater harmony among the various emirates are both benefits of this network. The cargo train service has already begun in all Emirates, but passenger service will begin at a later date.

The Inaugural Ceremony

During the opening ceremony of the railway’s Abu Dhabi-based central control and maintenance center, the Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum praised the accomplishment. He called this a major step forward in the country’s development journey.

Sheikh Mohammed said: “We are proud of the performance of our sons and daughters who have worked hard over the years to build an ambitious strategic project that will propel our national economy to greater heights. Connecting the Emirates via a national railway network strengthens our capabilities and competitiveness, and consolidates our unity”.

The Benefits

The project has helped the local economy by giving contracts to 215 businesses and organizations. In addition, the local economy benefits because 70% of the construction materials used in the project are made by these local industries.

Through a 21% reduction in carbon emissions in the road transport sector, the project also helps the UAE reach its sustainable development goals and attain UAE Net Zero by 2050.

Petrochemicals, raw steel, limestone, cement, building materials, industrial and domestic waste, aluminum, food commodities, and general cargo are just some of the goods that can be moved efficiently on the UAE’s national railway network, which means it will offer solutions for investors and customers alike.
